FLOWERS

Flowers. The word defines this book yet is too small to describe it. In the hands of a brilliant photographer, these are flowers as we have never seen them before -- flowers so spectacularly beautiful that, once seen, they cannot be forgotten. Among the blossoms that appear in this book, in a remarkable variety of guises, are the great ones -- irises, calla lilies, orchids, poppies, roses, and tulips. But here also are images of flowers that in lesser hands might be called unassuming -- morning glories, daisies, and alliums. Bela Kalman's stunning flower portraits, including his wonderfully fanciful computerized images, are the culmination of a renowned photographer's lifelong practice of his art and his continuing love of blooming plants. The photographs included in this book range from his earliest pictures of flowers, in 1939, to those taken in the past few years.

Author -
Bela Kalman was born in Hungary and emigrated during the 1956 uprising to the Uninted States, where he made his living from advertising photography. His work has appeared in many magazines, art exhibits, and illustrated books, is represented in the permanent collections of eighteen museums, and has won numerous awards. In 1990, Kalman was given a lifetime appointment as Master of the Federation of International Artistic Photographers, a title held by only twenty-five photographers; he is the only one from the United States. Kalman currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts.

ON FLOWERS

This book weaves together mystery, legend, history and folklore to create images which celebrate the wonder and beauty of flowers. For example, the photographs show that flowers can: appear in fantasy designs for clothing and art; accent the taste and look of food dishes; and more traditionally, they can be displayed in vases and wreaths with ravishing results. The lyrical text that accompanies the photographs explores the significance of flowers in literature, poetry and everyday life. Added to this is practical information on the styling, handling and care of flowers.

AUTHOR -

One of the world's most respected photographers, Anne Geddes creates images that are iconic, multi-award winning, internationally acclaimed, and beloved. Like no photographer before, her imagery singularly captures the beauty, purity, vulnerability, and preciousness of children, embodying her deeply held belief that each and every child must be protected, nurtured, and loved.

Anne's work has been published in 83 countries spanning North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. As well as winning numerous awards around the world, Anne's books have regularly appeared across bestseller lists including the Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, Book Sense, Barnes and Noble, and The New York Times. The latter has especially proved the success of Anne's imagery. The runaway success Down in the Garden featured on the list for three months, and Miracle remained on the list for six weeks.

While Anne is known for her photographic books, she remains on the forefront of the changing publishing industry, fully embracing the digital revolution. Implementing the latest technology in partnership with Apple, Anne has released Apps for the iPhone and iPad, and launched a successful iPad game, Anne Geddes MatchUp™. In September 2011, Beginnings and two of Anne's bestselling books, PURE and Until Now were released as eBooks, followed by Down in the Garden in December 2011; and in April 2012 Anne's classic baby record book, My First Five Years™ was released in digital form on the Mac App Store.

As well as media acclaim Anne has also been honored numerous times by the worldwide photographic community. Anne has been awarded a Lifetime Membership in the Professional Photographers of America Association in 1997, in which she gave the keynote address at the PPA convention. And Anne spoke again at the 2009 convention to a sold out crowd of over 3500 photographers, where she was honored to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Most recently, Anne has been invited to speak again at their upcoming conference in 2014.

Throughout her career Anne has continued to give back. In 1992, Anne with her husband, Kel, founded The Geddes Philanthropic Trust to raise funds and awareness worldwide for the prevention of child abuse and neglect. In 2011, Anne was proud to announce her partnership with the United Nation's Every Woman Every Child initiative, which she hopes will continue to help make the health and welfare of pregnant women, and newborn children, a global priority. Anne attended and spoke at the launch of the Shot@Life campaign in Atlanta, Georgia. An initiative of the United Nations Foundation, Shot@Life aims to provide life saving vaccines to children in the developing world. Anne was announced as the official Global Advocate at the launch, which was also attended by Kathy Calvin, Chief Executive Officer, United Nations Foundation; and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. In order to bring these issues to a wider audience Anne also contributes to The Huffington Post's' Global Motherhood' section.
